The International Folk Dances are led by local dancers. It’s a mix of slow, fast, easy and difficult. If folk dance is new to you, come hang out, laugh with us and see what it’s about.
Dances For All. You don’t need to know special steps. The dances are fun, the music is amazing, and we can all laugh and learn together. There’s a bit of teaching, verbal and visual cues through the dance, and people to lead through these simple walking dances. There’s something for everyone: couple dances, set dances (like contras) and line dances.
Contra Dances are done in two long lines. An example of this pattern is the Virginia Reel. A “caller” teaches the dance first and gives prompts during the dancing.
Weather Rock is a lovely restored barn with views of both the Bridger and Crazy mountains. The lower level has a kitchen, bathroom, dining area, and comfy seating by wood stove/heaters. There's also a large table laden with food during the potluck and a back porch overlooks the creek.

The Loft has a lovely dance floor that's easy on the feet, a spot for musicians, chairs around the perimeter, and great acoustics. Please bring clean, grit free shoes to wear up in the loft.  Outside is a fire pit for roasting marshmallows. There's also a Nature Center Classroom with room for dancing.
What Happens? Each September, dancers visit and regroup after a summer of hiking and traveling. It's also a time for beginners to try out simple walking dances. You don't need rhythm, and you won't throw everybody off.  Shy about dancing? Come and enjoy the music!
People fill the barn as the day progresses, with more participation as the dances get easier. At 5 pm the smell of supper clears out all but the craziest of dancers. Then the loft fills again for contra dancing. For those who prefer, there's International Folk Dancing in the Nature Center.
What To Bring? Lawn chairs for resting feet outdoors. Clean, softsoled shoes for the loft dance floor. But dress for Montana outdoor type weather. Camping supplies for outdoors or a sleeping bag for indoors if you plan to overnight. Flashlights are helpful.
Potluck items that can sit out awhile: hors d'oeuvre finger foods, breads & spreads, nonmayo salad, desserts, and your own beverages. There's limited refrigerator space, so bring a cooler if needed.
Detailed Directions: From Livingston, take Hwy 89 north. After Wilsall, turn left onto Hwy 86. Drive 6.7 miles to the Gallatin County Sign and turn right (north) onto the gravel lane. You can't see the buildings from the road.

From Bozeman, about 45 minutes. Go out Rouse Av. (Hwy 86) up Bridger Canyon. 3 miles after Bridger Bowl, the road turns left, uphill on paved road. Do not go straight on Brackett Creek Rd. Pass the Battle Ridge campground, the Fairy Lake turn off and the tiny town of Sedan. The road makes a very sharp right. Ignore signs for Flathead Pass; stay on paved road. At the Park County Sign, turn left (north) onto a gravel lane. You can't see the buildings from the road.
